The enhanced security provided compared with the weak locks installed as standard is only the most obvious advantage of the VAN LOCK Viro. When evaluating the installation of an additional lock it is important to also bear in mind other factors, such as the ease of everyday use, reliability over time and versatility.

How to increase the level of security of any cylinder
It doesn’t matter if a cylinder is low, medium or high level. You can greatly increase its resistance by protecting it with a security escutcheon.
The security escutcheon, also known as a “Defender” or security boss, is a true security shield that is mounted on the outside of a European profile cylinder, mainly to withstand attempts to break, remove or knock inside the cylinder itself. Continue reading
Installing an electric striking plate: what are the advantages?
The electrical striking plate allows you to open a door remotely, without changing the mechanical lock already installed.
Some might think that this is the only advantage that the installation of an electric strike provides, but is not so! Let’s see why.
A simple suggestion to improve the security of any padlock
Even the best padlock loses its effectiveness if it is anchored to fixing points which are weaker than the padlock itself. In this case, any thief will attack the fixing point, making the presence of the padlock simply useless.
This is the right electric lock for a heavy door or gate
One of the typical uses of electric locks is closing main entrance doors. The problem is that a main entrance door can also be very heavy, especially if it is a large wooden door. But a large metal gate is also very heavy. In situations of this type a common electric lock can break frequently as it is excessively stressed at every opening and closing. Continue reading
“In any case, if they want to steal, they’ll come anyway!” True or false? – Part 3
In the last episode of this “serial blog”, again with the aim of seeking the correct answer to the question stated in the title, we reached the conclusion that unfortunately there are many low-cost products on the market (often imported from the Far East) which do not offer any real reduction in the risk of theft. Today we will see, on the other hand, what considerations must be made before choosing the right protection according to the actual needs.
“In any case, if they want to steal, they’ll come anyway!” True or false? – Part 2
To try to answer the question contained in the title, we ended the last blog with an observation: there is a particular combination of factors which can make any defence useless. Today we will see what countermeasures can be adopted to try to avoid this possibility.

“In any case, if they want to steal, they’ll come anyway!” True or false? – Part 1
When it comes to security systems, protection methods and alarms, it is often said that, if thieves target a specific objective, sooner or later they’ll mange to carry out the theft. But is this statement true or not? To answer this we’ll need 3 articles on the blog.
Let’s start by making a comparison.
Are you, too, risking one of these 6 errors when you lock up your bike?
Going to work by car? Using public transport? Or relying on a bicycle? The world is increasingly trying to be environmentally-sustainable and, especially in easily accessible city centres (such as Bologna), cycling is a “must”. One of the main curses for urban cyclists is that of thefts.
Stealing a bike is relatively easy because – unlike cars and motorcycles – they don’t have a number plate or a registered owner; so it is very important to protect it properly, to discourage theft as much as possible. Unfortunately, however, there are still many cyclists who lock up their bikes in such a clumsy manner that they make life particularly easy for thieves, even the less well equipped ones.

How to install a security escutcheon on locks which are not set up for it (i.e. without DIN holes)
The security escutcheon, or defender, is a powerful shield that protects European profile cylinders against the most common attacks. In order for it to be fitted the lock must normally have special 2 holes for inserting the fastening screws, but if these are not present (either because the lock is simply not provided with them or because it is a version for metal sections where there is not the actual space to make them) the cylinder can still be protected with a universal security escutcheon. Continue reading
