When it comes to the resistance and quality of security products on the market, the questions we are most often asked by readers are: “What are the features that distinguish your products? Why prefer Viro to a cheaper product?”.
Once again, we will answer by showing you the results of some resistance tests carried out on our products and on their imitations of padlocks with chains, which are typical anti-theft devices for bicycles and mopeds.

Padlocks and chains II: slow and steady wins the race
Today we are going to talk again about chains, strong and weak rings, strength testing.
If you have still not read the article Padlocks & chains: which is the weak link?, it tells how the Viro Morso product and a copy behaved during a laboratory test simulating an attack with the striking of blows.
The videos we are presenting this week show another type of test, which still includes the Viro Morso (Made in Italy) and a copy (Far Eastern import).
This time, after submitting the chains to a salt spray corrosion test (after which the chain of the imported product was quite oxidized) we tested the resistance of the chains to cutting.
Padlocks and chains: which is the weak link?
If you have been following us for some time you will have noticed that one of the topics which is close to our heart is that of quality, in terms of the true strength of the products to withstand attacks by thieves and the reliability over time. The advice is always the same: invest in security and do not renounce it to save just a little money: the value of the assets exposed to risk is always much higher than the money that it is believed to have been saved!
With regard to quality, we have carried out tests in our laboratory to evaluate the resistance of Viro products, compared with others on the market.
Can you improve one of the best padlocks in circulation?
We in the industry do it for professional bias, but anyone can take a quick glance at the padlocks which close the shutters of our towns and cities and see that very often it is a Viro Panzer type; they are unmistakable due to the characteristic rounded shape, which makes them particularly difficult to grasp with burglary tools.
There is a suitable padlock for every use. How do you choose it?
Even in a general hardware store it is usually possible to find many kinds of padlocks; choosing the right one for you may not be easy. Let’s looks at some simple tips to help us.
Shackle type padlocks should only be chosen when you need to pass through small sized fixing points. The common shackle type padlocks are the most widespread, but they are also potentially the most easily attacked, because, unless fixed with hooks of a particular shape, leave the shackle very much exposed, so that they can be cut, sliced or ripped with saws, shears or simple levers. Unless there are special reasons which require their use, it is better to prefer lock-bolt solutions, such as the padlocks for roller shutters. Continue reading

One particular type of padlock is that with a long shackle, which can be very useful in some specific cases, but which, unfortunately, is often misused. Let’s see why. Continue reading
What features must a good padlock for shutters have?
Padlocks are one of the most commonly used systems for locking the shutters of shops, garages and warehouses. A good padlock for shutters is generally more resistant than the normal locks originally installed on the shutters. But how do you distinguish between a good padlock for shutters and one which is unable to provide adequate protection? Continue reading
The Viro cylindrical padlock: 5 times more secure
The cylindrical padlock is a real trademark for Viro, which designed it in 1942 and has produced it ever since. The Viro cylindrical padlock has unique features which make it much more secure than common shackle padlocks, whilst remaining roughly in the same price range. Let’s look at 5 of these features. Door chains and double doors: the convenience of a double bolt padlock
Double bolt padlocks are less common than those with a single bolt, but in some situations they make a real difference in terms of ease of use and security. Padlocks with dead-bolt type locking, like those for roller shutters, normally have only one dead-bolt and a single slot. Continue reading
What features must a padlock have not to rust even under the worst climatic conditions?
28The first enemy of a padlock are potential attackers, but, especially if used outdoors, immediately afterwards they are rain, salinity and dust, which in the long run may corrode it, let it rust and block it, such as to render it useless. Continue reading
